News - Ghana & Ethiopia 2010

April 5th - April 19th

We are happy to announce that Susan Kiely has arrived back to the United States safely! She certainly had a wonderful and adventurous trip to Africa.

Susan traveled to Ghana & Ethiopia to discover ways that Women With A Cause could help the women in these countries. In Ethiopia she was hosted by Marta and Deme Grabre-Tsadick of Project Mercy. In Ghana her hosts were the Presbyterian Church of Ghana. It was discovered that both of these centers could use our help.

After some fact finding, and needs assessments it was discovered that both centers will best be served by Women With A Cause by providing a total of 6 computers to Ethiopia, and 24 computers to Ghana. We will also work to develop a curriculum that will focus on teaching a permanante computer instructor on the ground. This instructor would then go on to teach an unlimited amount of women the skills needed to use a computer. Our greatest hope is that these women would be able to use these skills to find employments and support themselves and their families.

There is also an opportunity for WWAC to teach sewing skills in both countries. Currently, Project Mercy has 4 women working as seamstresses, however, their sewing skills are limited and low quality. WWAC has the opportunity to take a group of American seamstresses to help these 4 women develop their skills.

The women in Ghana are highly skilled seamstresses and they have the ability to create, and market a product that WWAC has created. In January 2010, WWAC was blessed to have an intern, Teresa Lewis, create a beautiful handbag that was designed with Ghana in mind. It is our hope is to bring 2 Ghanaian women to the US for one-on-one training in both production, and marketing.

If you are interested in sponsoring the computer program, or the sewing project please call 303-675-0405 for more information. If you would like to read more about Susan's African adventure, please follow us on Facebook.

News - Future Plans

Bring our Mission to the U.S.

According to the National Alliance to End Homlessness, the recession will force 1.5 million more people into homelessness over the next two years and with 10% to 15% unemployment rate in the United States, Women With A Cause has decided to launch a U.S. initiative.

WE Initiative 2011 - Women:  Educate, Empower, Elevate

Goal:  To provide career path for homeless mothers in the United States

In the next ten years there will be a 27% increase in job opportunities for individuals who have an education in nursing.  Women With A Cause Founder, Susan Kiely, thought the nursing field would be the perfect profession that would give homeless mothers a sense of empowerment.
